Who is it for?
This course is for you if you wish to develop your creative writing beyond beginners level. You will be investigating numerous elements and techniques which contribute towards effective writing techniques, anaylsing a wide range of texts, exploring literary critique, as well as honing your skills of evaluation.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. An interest in wider reading and writing is desirable. It would be beneficial for learners to attend the Creative Writing course first, but it is not essential.

What does the course involve?
Through evaluating a diverse collection of texts, including your own writings, the course provides a great opportuntiy to discover more about the following:
- a range of literary techniques, including a focus on sensory imagery and emotive language
- a variety of genre
- the development of characters
- the nature and purpose of dialogue,
- plot building & development
- structure
- creativity vs stereotypes
- your audience and how to keep them reading
- assessing different writing styles
The course topics are ‘tension in a small town’ and ‘an embarrassing experience’ and are designed to be flexible enough to accommodate individual writing styles and preferences, whilst providing a challenge.

How is the course assessed?
There are no formal assessments. However, the course will be assessed formatively throughout and the course aim is that you will produce pieces of writing for each course topic.

Additional Notes
There are no required additional materials or resources, but you will need writing materials/media. In addition, you may wish to purchase books for personal use as the course progresses. The college has the following facilities: an extensive range of modern computer equipment, a well-equipped Resource Centre (available to you outside normal class times), and an on-line learning system you can access from anywhere with an internet connection.
