Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts Industry Skills

This course is a one year programme for students who have an interest in the Performing Arts and want to find out more. It is an excellent foundation for developing skills in Acting, Dancing and Musical Theatre.

It also offers students not wishing to pursue a career in performance, the opportunity to improve confidence and interpersonal skills in a supportive environment.

A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including English. You should be able to demonstrate a passion for performing arts.

If you are enthusiastic and passionate about performing arts and have an interest in contemporary theatre, our courses can help you to achieve your ambitions. We provide students with the opportunity to develop their singing, acting and/or dance skills, as well as understanding professional development and industry business requirements.

You will have sessions in drama, dance, singing and devising, as well as exploring aspects of theatre design and career pathways.

The units you will study include:
• Skills development for performing arts
• Preparing for a performing arts production
• Performing arts production
• Creative interpretation
• Audition and portfolio process.
• Audition practice and self-promotion skills
• Employment planning and career opportunities.

When we are preparing for a production, a number of auditions take place, so your regular timetable becomes a rehearsal schedule, and you will be required to attend evening performances.

If you do not have a Grade 4 or higher in GCSE English and/or Maths, you will also have the opportunity to study them. Work is assessed through unit assignments, including practical classwork, development of performance skills, written evaluations, discussions, and presentations. A sample of assessed work is seen by an external verifier before final grades are confirmed.

A contribution towards educational visits may also be requested.

On successful completion of the Level 2 course, students have gone on to various Level 3 courses here at SCG. These include Level 3 Performing Arts and Level 3 Music Performance or Production as well as Public Services and Business amongst others. Students have also gone on to study supported internships.

There are educational visits to London’s West End, viewings of musical theatre, dramas and shows at Shakespeare’s Globe.

The course includes the opportunity to take part in shows and performances. We also invite guest performers in for workshops, talks and masterclasses.
