Three exams at the end of the second year of both short and long answers. One exam is based on a resource booklet. The individual investigation based on fieldwork is worth 20% of the final mark.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language, Maths and Geography (if taken at GCSE).

What does the course involve?
SCG offers a fantastic opportunity for you to study this fascinating subject with dedicated A Level specific teachers in some of the best facilities in the county. The subject offers you the chance to learn more about the world, globalisation, and climate change amongst other topics. Geography is also really useful to study alongside subjects such as Geology, Biology, Sociology and Psychology. Geography can be useful for a whole range of university courses and will help you keep your options open.
As part of the course, you will study regeneration in urban and rural areas, globalisation, superpowers, migration, water and carbon cycles, energy security, tectonic processes and hazards, migration and coastal landscapes and management.
You will also develop important skills such as decision-making, literacy, research, numeracy, teamwork, IT skills and evaluation. We use a wide range of case studies from around the world, including, Haiti, California, and Bolivia as well as some closer to home.
There is a focus on small group activities, as we want you to work with others and develop your own ideas and opinions.

Additional Notes
Geographers are highly employable in a range of areas as they deal with some big issues in today's world, including climate change, conflict, migration, and inequality. In addition, geographers develop a range of valuable and transferable skills. Many students progress to higher education to study Geography or a related subject. Other students go on to relevant careers in areas such as the environment, planning travel, social services, charities, media, research, and marketing.

Further Information
Fieldwork includes day trips to the Welsh coast and Birmingham, as well as other more local activities close to college.
