Who is it for?
This programme aims to provide you with the specialist knowledge, skills and understanding to work within the exciting and dynamic travel and tourism industry. This area of work is expanding both at home and abroad. Employment can be found in a variety of sectors including travel agencies, tour operations, accommodation, transportation, visitor attractions, conferences and exhibitions to name but a few. Upon successful completion of the programme, you can go on to study for a Level 4/5 qualification in Travel and Tourism or related areas such as Event Management and Cruise Line Operations.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English.

What does the course involve?
Holiday representatives, air cabin crew, travel agents…. these are the obvious jobs in travel and tourism. What about the festival organiser, hotel manager, or marketing executive? Or you may have an idea to start your own business. These are just a few of the exciting and varied jobs available in Travel & Tourism. Our expert and specialist teachers will guide you through the course and equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to fulfil your ambitions. A uniform is required for promotional and professional activities for travel & tourism. Please enquire at your interview.
Includes units such as The World of Travel and Tourism, Global Destinations, Managing the Customer Experience, Travel and Tourism Enterprises, Visitor Attractions, The Airport Experience, Principles of Marketing, Working Overseas, Events, Conferences and Exhibitions, The Cruise Industry, Managing Accommodation Services, Researching Current Travel Trends and Key Issues in Travel and Tourism and The UK as a Tourist Destination. You will volunteer at events and activities within college, as well as engage with team building and leadership activities within the industry to improve your confidence and employability. The course includes European Erasmus funded work placement opportunities, an Italian student exchange programme, planning your own residential, Disneyland Paris, Attingham Park, Ironbridge Gorge Museums and Cardingmill Valley.

How is the course assessed?
Assessments on the course include a combination of coursework and externally assessed exams. These include writing reports, researching case studies, creating promotional material such as leaflets and posters. In addition, we will support you in developing your presentation skills and other business-related activities.

Additional Notes
There are many progression routes from the successful completion of this course including employment, gaining UCAS points to go to University or even an apprenticeship. You can progress to higher education at Shrewsbury Colleges Group with our HNC / HND in Business at the London Road Campus. International tourism management, tourism and hospitality management and events management, as well as business and marketing are examples of just some of the courses available at universities across the UK. This course can lead to employment locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, in roles such as: air cabin crew, resort representative, travel agent, tourist attraction management, cruise operator, hotel manager, marketing executive, and event organiser.

Further Information
There are opportunities for volunteering and work experience throughout the course, some with festivals and industry partners to plan events and attractions. A huge range of trips are available, including to Chester Zoo, Alton Towers, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London. We also have a student exchange programme.

This course has always interested me from the very beginning of year one. Understanding how the travel and tourism industry works can offer so many amazing job opportunities. The trips we go on have been hugely beneficial in terms of gaining knowledge and after completing 60 hours of work experience at Opulent Travel I have gained confidence and knowledge about this forever expanding sector.
