Who is it for?
The course is for people who want to acquire basic language skills for leisure or professional development. The emphasis is on elementary vocabulary to understand and take part in basic conversations. On completion of the course, you will be able to progress to a continuation course to give you the opportunity to develop your skills further.

What does the course involve?
During the course you will develop competence in listening, reading, writing and speaking across a range of real-life situations. These situations will include:
- introducing yourself, family and friends, getting to know people
- ordering a meal, buying food and drink
- booking accommodation
- finding out about facilities and where places are, understanding basic directions
- making enquiries, asking for bus/ train timetables and buying tickets
- telling the time and understanding opening and closing hours
- talking about special occasions.

Additional Notes
We suggest you bring a pen and some paper to take notes.
It is also recommended you purchase the BBC Talk French 1 (The ideal course for absolute beginners) book as it is used in lessons and for home learning.
