Heat Training Grant
Subject to eligibility; If you're a heating engineer, you could receive a discount of up to £500 towards the cost of heat pump training, plus support and advice when installing a heat pump for the first time.
You’re eligible for the grant if ALL of the following are true:
- You work for a business with 250 employees or fewer, you are a sole trader, or you are unemployed
- You, or the business you work for, are certified by a competent person scheme for heating and hot water installations. Examples include: APHC, BESCA, Blue Flame Certification, Gas Safe Register, Certsure/NIC EIC, HETAS, NAPIT, OFTEC or Stroma
- You, or the business you work for, haven’t already received more than £315,000 in government subsidies over the last 3 years

The grant is only available for training which takes place in England.

Who is it for?
This course is aimed at experienced heating installers who wish to expand their knowledge and skills to include fitting heat pumps in domestic and small commercial properties. It will also enable you to meet the training entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have the following:
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Plumbing, Heating/Ventilation, Gas or Oil or Gas Safe Registration
- Alternatively, candidates may be eligible if they have a minimum of 3 years experience of installing wet central heating systems (candidates must provide suitable evidence of this)
- Candidates will also need Water Regulations if not covered within one of the above qualifications

What does the course involve?
The Air Source Heat Pump Installation course will enable operatives to specify, survey, design, maintain and install domestic or small commercial heat pump systems, enlisting manufacturer's support where required. Systems up to 16kW for air source heat pumps are covered, plus the following areas:
- – Background to market
- – Heat pump regulations and guidance
- – Principles of air source heat pump operation
- – Heat pump types
- – Matching to the correct heating system
- – Pre-installation requirements
- – Installation materials and methods
- – Setting to work, commissioning
- – Heat pump servicing and fault finding

How is the course assessed?
The Air Source Heat Pump Installation course comprises both classroom and practical training, finishing with a practical & theoretical assessment at the end of day 3.
