      • Who is it for?

The AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping develops existing skills and knowledge at Foundation Level to an advanced level for anyone wishing to continue or pursue a career in bookkeeping.

This qualification is suitable for those who have completed the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping and may help students already working in a bookkeeping role to progress by offering them formal recognition of their skills. The AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment.

This is also a useful route for learners who want to set up as independent bookkeepers, upon completion of all exams learners gain qualified bookkeeper status (AATQB).

      • Entry Requirements

It is expected that students will have successfully completed the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting Course or have some other recognised finance / accounting qualification. Alternatively, we do accept students who have gained sufficient accounting experience in their place of work.

AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping. However, for the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and Maths. If students do have any other relevant school or college qualifications, a degree or some accounting experience, these may in certain circumstances entitle students to claim exemptions.

If you opt to take Level 4, you will be able to apply for full membership on completion of the examinations and after demonstrating key competencies and experience. You can then progress on to higher accounting qualifications such as ACCA (Associations of Chartered Certified Accountant), ACA (Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales) or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).

Successful completion of Level 3 will depend on a high level of commitment from students.  This course requires significant home study between lessons, we generally recommend 4 hours per week.
