Who is it for?
This course is for students with an interest in developing research skills, and exploring and investigating a range dressmaking, sewing and textiles techniques and processes. The course involves a business element to introduce an awareness of how you can apply your creative skills to be used in an employment/enterprise context.

No formal qualifications are needed however some evidence of ability and a keen interest in the subject.

What does the course involve?
The course involves introducing you to range of dressmaking skills and techniques. You will learn how to take correct body measurements, follow a commercial pattern, pattern adaptation and alteration. You will also learn skills in garment construction through using different seam finishes, fastenings, whilst working with different fabrics and understanding their properties and application
You will be required to investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities and apply these to your own work.
Through the development stages of your work, you will develop analytical and research skills and be required to evaluate your own work as it progresses
You will work on developing and creating a final outcome and will learn skills in how to appropriately present and evaluate your work.
You will learn how to use materials, tools and equipment in a safe and competent manner and develop an understanding of health and safety considerations in the art & design environment.
Mandatory units
- Use materials, tools and equipment to develop craft techniques (M/506/2674)
- Investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities (K/506/2673)
- Develop craft ideas (H/506/2672 )
- Create, present and evaluate final craft item (L/506/2675)

How is the course assessed?
Through 100% coursework /portfolio of work.
You will complete a body of work for each unit, each unit will be assessed and graded by your teacher after each assessment deadline.
Examples of work from all units will be sampled and assessed by an external moderator.
All work will need to be kept in College, until all external moderation has taken place.

Additional Notes
You will need to provide your own basic sewing kit (tape measure, fabric scissors, sewing needles, pins and unpicker) and your own fabrics for each sewing project.
You will also require a basic art set to include pencils, pencil sharpener, rubber, paper scissors, A4 files and plastic pockets & sketch books.

The course runs on a Tuesday 9.30am - 12.30pm at the English Bridge Campus.
