Who is it for?
This course is for students with an interest in developing their skills in floral design. It covers a wide range of skills in contemporary and traditional flower arrangements and design. Ideal for anyone from a complete beginner to those wishing to further develop their knowledge and skills. It offers an initial understanding on all aspects of floristry to progress to higher levels.

Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are needed however some evidence of ability and a keen interest in the subject.

What does the course involve?
The course involves introducing you to range of floristry skills and processes
The sessions will be a mix of practical and theory based work. They will cover all aspects of the practical skills and techniques required to produce floral work to a commercial standard. The course involves the student creating a portfolio of their work in the form of photographs of practical work, plans and relevant notes from lessons and assignments for assessment.
A strong emphasis will be put on floral design, tutor guidance will be given at every stage. The units will cover:-
- Identification and processing of cut materials and pot plants
- Design and construction of floral arrangements
- Storage, display and wrapping of floristry goods
- Handtied and Loose bouquets
- Simple floral wedding designs and accessories
- Basic introduction to funeral and sympathy floral designs
- Buying, costing and health and safety
- Display of floristry designs.
You will be required to investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities and apply these to your own work.
Through the development stages of your work you will develop analytical and research skills and be required to evaluate your own work as it progresses
You will work on developing and creating final outcomes and will learn skills in how to appropriately present and evaluate your work at different stages.
You will learn how to use materials, tools and equipment in a safe and competent manner and develop an understanding of health and safety considerations in the floristry environment.

- Develop craft ideas (H/506/2672)
- Create, present and evaluate final floristry Item (T/506/2679)

How is the course assessed?
Through 100% coursework /portfolio of work.
You will complete a body of work for each unit, each unit will be assessed and graded by your teacher after each assessment deadline.
Examples of work from all units will be sampled and verified by an external moderator.

Additional Notes
You are required to purchase all your own flowers for each task/assignment. This is a highly practical course, it is the student’s responsibility to purchase/provide a large range of flowers and other items to support the practice of skills and development for each task.
Photographs of your work is required to provide evidence of the competences achieved and will form the basis of your portfolio.
You will need to provide your own basic floristry kit. (The tutor will provide you with a suggested list at the start of the course).
You will also be required to provide your own A4 files and plastic pockets.

Wednesday, 9.30am - 12.30pm
Group B
Wednesday, 1.30pm - 4.30pm
