40% Exam and 60% Coursework (based on performance-related work).

  • Entry Requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language.

  • What does the course involve?

This exciting course offers opportunities to learn about all aspects of the dramatic arts. We offer a practical, engaging, and creative course where you will examine the work of drama practitioners, explore drama as a practical art form, and work independently to create your own performances. The course is run by dedicated and experienced teaching staff who will help you to gain new skills and knowledge in the dramatic arts.

You will be given a thorough grounding in the basics of performing and experience the innovative styles of playwrights, directors, actors, and companies. You will develop and demonstrate a range of theatre-making skills and experience a range of opportunities to create theatre, both published text-based and devised work.

Three are three components: the first two components are practical and component three is a written exam on three set texts.

For component one, you will reinterpret a script and perform it internally alongside a written creative log. Homework across both years will be researching specific practitioners, exam-based questions on the set texts, writing scripts and learning lines.

In the second year, for component two you will work on a devised and a scripted piece to perform to an external examiner. You will also complete an evaluative report.

  • Additional Notes

Typically, over 80% of SCG students progress to higher education, of whom 75% choose degree courses related to the performing arts. This course is an excellent step towards a career in the performance industry, showing that a student is confident, self-disciplined and can work in a team.

  • Further Information

You will have the opportunity to be part of MaDA (Music & Dramatic Arts) - an exciting programme of music and drama activities working with like-minded creative students and attend performances of some of the course's set texts. The New York trip includes a Broadway stage workshop and visiting iconic locations including NBC Studios to consider the realities of a career in show business.

  • What do I do next?

You can also apply for a second, alternative vocational programme of study via a separate application.
