Who is it for?
If at the time of enrolment you wish to discuss your choice of Level 1 Introductory Welding pathway (MIG, TIG, MMA), please speak to our Part-Time Admissions Team. Candidates are usually enrolled onto the MIG pathway as this is the most commonly studied pathway at this level, but you can be enrolled onto your chosen method of either MIG, TIG or MMA depending on your individual interests.

What does the course involve?
Basic introductory practical welding programmes in the chosen method of either MIG, TIG and MMA to suit the individual interests of the person undertaking the course. For people wanting to join the programme, the evening only, one night per week course offers the City & Guilds 3268 Introductory Welding Skills. This is a programme with a certificate at the end of each unit. Part time day programmes are structured in a similar way to the evening only programme and may be available on request.
During the course you will study the following modules:
- Setting up and closing down procedures of welding equipment
- Basic MMA welding techniques and joints
- Health and safety in a welding workshop
By studying this course you will gain:
- Knowledge of basic welding
- Processes
- Skills in welding basic joints
- Skills in joining a range of materials
- A basic understanding of fault analysis of a weld or joint

Additional Notes
Suitable full length welding overalls and safety boots are needed.
