The Apprenticeship theory is taught at college on a day release basis once a week. In addition, you will be visited at your workplace regularly by your assessor, for the duration of your apprenticeship. During your workplace assessments you will demonstrate your competency through doing your job and be provide evidence of your knowledge and skills. If you need to complete your functional skills, then this will be covered at college.

  • Who is it for?

    Within this apprenticeship there are various job roles which would be applicable such as;

    Machine Setter Operator - Basic machine operator for batch production activity, material preparation, operate a variety of machines to turn; drill; bore; grind; cut and mill to shape metal workpieces to specification.

    Machine Tool Fitter (semi-skilled) - Alignment of Linear rails and ball screws; Grinding, scraping and other adjustment techniques, Pneumatic and hydraulic pipe work working to assembly drawings.

    Jig and Tool Fitter (semi -skilled) - Assemble and repair machine and press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other tools.

    Moulder/Coremaker (semi-skilled) - Work in foundries where metal is melted and cast into parts such as metal components for industrial machinery, turbines, and other industrial equipment. Mechanical Fitter (semi-skilled) - Assembly (under supervision) of mechanical equipment and related systems to required specifications.

    Semi-skilled Sheet Metal Worker - Fabricate, install, and repair ventilating, heating, and air-conditioning systems; and a wide variety of other sheet fabrications and equipment.

    CNC Operator/Setter - Operating CNC machinery such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Setting up datum’s, offsets, tooling. Inspecting and keeping tolerances in high volume production.

  • Entry Requirements

    In order to complete this Apprenticeship you will be expected to complete an initial assessment in maths and English to ensure you are at a suitable level to work towards these qualifications. Some employers will specify their own minimum qualification entry requirements, which would be detailed within their Apprenticeship vacancy.

  • What does the course involve?

    There are two main qualifications within this Apprenticeship;

    • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing (assessing your competence in the job role)
    • Level 2 Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing (assessing your knowledge)
  • Additional Notes

    Typically this takes between 18 - 24 months to complete, depending on your previous knowledge and experience.

  • What do I do next?

    To be an apprentice you will need an employer who can offer you work and release you for your training. Once you have an employer in place, you can apply online.
