Who is it for?
This course is for anyone wanting to develop basic skills in hairdressing or beauty therapy. After this course you could gain employment as a junior in a salon, progress onto level 2 hairdressing or Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Make-up and Nails.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of one GCSE at grade 4 or above, good communication skills and a passion for beauty therapy and hairdressing.

What does the course involve?
Studying hairdressing and beauty therapy can set you up for a career in a rewarding industry with potential for traditional salon work, emerging treatments and entrepreneurship. This course is aimed at those students with no prior salon experience. Our expert teachers will guide you through the requirements of this course and help you progress onto the Level 2 courses in our commercial salons.
You will work in the Training Academy and our commercial salon developing skills on peers and paying clients for the following units:
Health and Safety
Shampoo and Conditioning
Styling Women’s Hair
Styling Men’s Hair
Plaiting and Twisting Hair
Basic Make-up application
Providing Basic Manicure Treatment
Colour Hair using Temporary Colour
Create a Hair and Beauty Image
Salon Reception Duties
Working with Others in the Hair and Beauty Sector
You will be required to engage in one week’s mandatory work placement to develop your employability skills.
You will continue to develop your Maths and English skills and study GCSEs in Maths and English, if you have not already achieved a grade 4.

How is the course assessed?
You will submit assignments, written exams and you will be observed demonstrating practical services in our commercial salon.
