Level 2 Diploma in Men's & Women's Hairdressing
Previous school: Llanfyllin High School
I chose to study hairdressing at SCG as it was the best option out of all the other colleges nearby. It’s a very creative course that I get to combine with my love of photography, to build up a portfolio of my hairstyles. We also get to enter our photos for inclusion in Concept Hair magazine.

I was a plumber and wanted a career change. My friend who runs a barber’s inspired me to join the part-time Cutting Men’s Hair course at Shrewsbury Colleges Group. The teachers and facilities were great and learning in the evening meant I could carry on with my day job. Four months after completing the course I had opened The Fade Inn, my own Barber’s in Shrewsbury.

Level 2 Award in Cutting Men’s Hair
I would recommend anyone wanting to get into barbering to jump on this course. The tutor is patient, helpful, and informative yet also makes the course fun and relaxed.
During my time on this course, I even had the opportunity to attend a huge hair and barbering event in London and gain work experience with James at ‘Unknown Barbershop’ who has also taught me so much.

Level 3 Hairdressing
Previous school: Newtown High School
I’ve grown more confident since the Level 2 course which helps me use my creativity to learn more adventurous hairstyles. I’ve learned a variety of advanced skills, including perming and colour correction. I live in Wales, but the college was recommended to me and I enjoy the modern college environment.
Kathryn Harvey
Diploma in Women's Hairdressing
Studying part-time has allowed me to train towards my career goal, as the course works well around my childcare support. Also, having the chance to work in the College’s commercial salon, gives you the opportunity to learn the business side of salons. After completing the Level 2 I want to continue with Level 3 and then become a mobile hairdresser.
