  • 1 Year
  • Vocational Full Time
  • FLR2BSD(2526)

All programme work is continually assessed in oral, practical and written situations with project work and portfolio building.

  • How much does it cost?

It is an expectation of professional practice to wear a uniform whilst in salon sessions. It is advisable to purchase a kit to allow you to practice skills out of College. Order forms are available at the Group Interview event.

  • Who is it for?

This course is suitable if you have a keen interest in beauty therapy and wish to find employment as a Beauty Therapist or a Beauty Consultant within salons, clinics, hotels, spas and cruise ships. Working towards Level 3 Massage or Level 3 Make-Up after this programme would be the long-term goal but is not an automatic process. Progression and development will be monitored to determine individual learning plans and identify goals and options. Students will be required to have an informal discussion with the tutor and complete a trade assessment before acceptance to the Level 3 Beauty programme.

  • Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above are needed, preferably including English and Maths. Good communication and personal presentation skills and a keen interest in beauty therapy. Mature candidates will be exempt, depending upon experience.

  • What does the course involve?

This is a commercially recognised qualification and therefore you must be willing to work as part of a team as well as independently.

You will be given the opportunity to provide professional beauty treatments to clients in our training academy and develop your customer service skills. You will work in a commercial environment to industry standards.

You will be guided through the required course aspects to work as a beauty therapist, including:

    • Waxing techniques
    • Applying make-up
    • Eyelash and eyebrow treatments
    • Manicure
    • Pedicure
    • Facial skincare
    • Client care
    • Health & safety
    • Fulfilling reception duties.

You must be punctual, reliable and enjoy working with people. This is a challenging course, so you need high levels of self-motivation and a strong commitment to study but you'll be supported throughout the course. Support skills such as problem-solving, team working, and research skills will also be developed.

  • Additional Notes

There are many career opportunities after taking one of our Beauty Therapy courses. On completion of Level 2 Beauty courses, progression opportunities include a Level 3 Diploma in Message Therapies and a Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Make-up Techniques. You may choose to study further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4 such as an HNC/D in Business.

  • Further Information

Our course also offers the opportunity to go on trips and visits which will enrich your learning experience.

  • What do I do next?

You can apply online via the APPLY button. You can also apply for a second, alternative programme of study such as A Levels via a separate application. If after reading this factsheet, you are still undecided about the course most suitable for you, please drop into one of our open evenings, ring the Admissions Department on 01743 653111, or email admissions@scg.ac.uk
