Non-exam assessment is 20% of qualification, involving coursework tasks looking at System Design.

  • Entry Requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language, with grade 5 or above in Maths. You should have grade 5 or above in Physics or at least 5:5 in Combined Science

  • What does the course involve?

Electronics fills our everyday lives! At home, we use computers, telephones, washing machines, radios, TVs, cameras, etc. Outside we encounter electronics in trains, planes and cars, traffic systems and hospital equipment. It is ubiquitous. Clearly, the field of Electronics has made and will continue to make, a huge impact on the quality of our lives and the prosperity of the country. We are one of only a few colleges in the country which offer A Level Electronics, so this should give you a distinct advantage when pursuing future careers linked to this subject.

Electronics is an ideal subject if you like a blend of the practical and the theoretical and are confident carrying out calculations and using equations. This course is an ideal complement to many other A Levels such as Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.

Relevant Skills and knowledge are clearly needed in this technological age. You will gain a thorough grounding in basic electronics and will be introduced to some of the many exciting communication and control applications. The project component of the course will allow you to gain hands-on experience at designing, building and testing specific systems and those of your own choice. You need to be self-motivated and capable of independent research and study.

  • Additional Notes

A Level Electronics is a valuable asset for those wishing to pursue electronics as a career, or any science, engineering and technology-related profession. Many Electronics students go on to study engineering, physics or computing at university with recent students also gaining prestigious apprenticeships with GCHQ, BBC, and Google.

  • Further Information

You can take part in the Engineering Education Scheme which links teams of students with local companies to work on real, scientific, engineering and technological problems. This six-month scheme provides you with in-depth experience in science, engineering and technology so that you can make an informed decision about your future studies and career.

  • What do I do next?

You can apply online via the APPLY button and then add an additional two or three subjects to make up your academic programme. You can also apply for a second, alternative vocational programme of study via a separate application.
