There are two mandatory unit end tests supported with six practical assessments completed throughout the year.

Who is it for?
This course is designed to provide a technical foundation on which to build a career in the construction industry.

Entry Requirements
GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above. You should have an interest in multiple trades.

What does the course involve?
The course content is largely practical to help you choose the right trade for you. Our expert teachers will guide you through the requirements of this course in our purpose-built classrooms, allowing you to develop transferable skills that are highly sought after worldwide. This is an ideal opportunity to try various construction trades and gain a basic knowledge of the Construction Industry before deciding on progression to a higher level course.
You will study several optional units including:
Introduction to the Construction Industry
Health and Safety
Brick and Blockwork
Carpentry and Joinery
Painting and Decorating
Various other aspects of construction operations
Students may wish to follow a particular trade pathway on the Level 1 Diploma.
You must also achieve the required level of Maths and English (GCSE or Functional Skills), depending on prior achievements and initial assessments.

Additional Notes
On successful completion of this course, you will have the option to progress to a specific Construction trade course. Another progression route is an apprenticeship in Construction. Both these progression routes are available through Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

Further Information
Brickwork students have the opportunity to enter local, national and international competitions including the UK SkillBuild competition.
