Jack Kirby completed a level 1 Professional Chefs qualification before gaining his Level 2 and Level 3 Pastry apprenticeship at our Origins restaurant.
After completing his education with us, Jack gained a full-time, live-in position at the prestigious Lygon Arms where he is the Pastry Chef de partie, overseeing the la carte pastry section.
Currently, Jack is preparing for the finals of Young Pastry Chef of the Year Competition, hosted by The Craft Guild of Chefs, and taking place at Sheffield College on May 31. The winner of this competition gets an all expenses paid trip to Milan for four days, working with 2021 World Pastry Chef Massimo Pica.

By becoming a finalist Jack has also been granted the exciting opportunity to become Pastry Chef de partie at the exclusive Green Michelin Starred Heckfield Place in Hampshire, he will start this position in May 2023. Also in May, Jack has managed to source a two-week placement at the 2 Michelin Star Le Manoir aux Quat’Sasions, a Belmond Hotel, in Oxford.
Jack was more than happy to return to the college to talk to current students about progression opportunities available to students who study here and is a testament to the notion that hard work pays off. The college would like to thank Jack for returning to talk to current students and wishes him well in all his future endeavours.
