The Hairdressing students of Shrewsbury Colleges Group were able to showcase their talents at the College’s annual hair competition last week.
Hairdressing students from all levels took part in the end-of-year hair competition and had the chance to show off all the skills they had perfected during their time at college. Each student worked on their own theme and were given free-reign to create their masterpieces.
The competition was judged by industry professionals: Tom Wheeler, Distribution Account Manager for Affinage, Lisa Ferriday, from Skeeter’s Salon and Jennifer Spoon Hannan, from Jenny Spoon’s Hair Salon. They spent the afternoon judging, with winning students walking away with top-quality prizes.
Winners were chosen from the full time and part time student cohorts. Jess Smith, studying Level 3 Advanced Hairdressing, who won for her Bee concept said: “I never thought I’d win – I can’t stop smiling. I love nature and the colour palette that you associate with bees. I created a classic beehive hair style, adding volume by using crimping irons.” Laura Bradley, who is studying Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing part-time, won with her Futuristic theme and commented: “To come up with my concept I did a lot of online research. I knew I wanted to create something with a mohawk and did this one by double braiding the hair. I also added in colour extensions and crimped and backcombed the hair for volume.”
Tom Wheeler said: “This has been a very enjoyable day and it is great to see the hairdressing talent that will be the future generation.”
