Shrewsbury Colleges Group has responded to the notification of strike action at the college by teachers who are members of the National Education Union. Strike action will occur on Thursday, 28 November, Tuesday, 3, and Wednesday, 4 December 2024. The strike action is in response to the NEU's dispute with the Secretary of State for Education over the demand for a fully funded above-inflation pay award for teachers and will take place in some sixth-form colleges.
The college will take action to minimise the strike's impact on students across the three days.
The strike action will not affect college trips, the Criminology external assessment on 28 November, the information event on 28 November or the Christmas Concert on 4 December.
Students who have an assessment, exam, or trip will still be expected to attend college to complete the exam or assessment or go on the trip on these dates in November and December. All lessons will be registered.
The overwhelming majority of lessons will take place as usual. Therefore, all students should attend college as normal unless informed otherwise by the relevant Curriculum Director.
Students will be contacted by:
- Tuesday, 26 November, with the details of alternative arrangements for Thursday, 28 November
- Friday, 29 November, with the details of alternative arrangements for Tuesday, 3 December
- Monday, 2 December, with the details of alternative arrangements for Wednesday, 4 December
