For Year 2 Students on Academic Programmes: A level / CTEC / Criminology

The college had detailed the planned mock exam period for A level and CTEC subjects to give students further experience of preparing and sitting several papers close together.

Year 2 Assessment Week

The mock week will run from Monday, 9 December to Friday, 13 December.

Please note that there is no mock exam for Criminology at this stage, as the controlled assessment for this subject only recently took place in November.

Individual exam timetables for students (including dates/times/room/seat number/candidate number) will be available on the MySCG app and on ProPortal from Monday, 25 November.

Please note that students may already be able to see exam timetable information on the app, but this is NOT the final version—dates, rooms, and seats are still being sorted out and could change multiple times in the next couple of weeks, so students should please wait until 25 November for the final version.

Course tutors will review critical exam information in tutorials next week, including how to access or print their timetable and reminders for what students can/can’t bring to exams.

All exams will take place at English Bridge.

Study Leave

Study leave runs from Monday, 9 December to Friday, 13 December for most Year 2 A level subjects with some exceptions as follows:

Students of Fine Art, Graphics, Photography, and textiles should attend lessons unless there is a clash with an exam. If there is a clash, students should attend the exam and make up an equivalent amount of time in the studio when possible. Art staff will let students know when the studios are available during that week.

CTEC students of Applied Science, Business and Health & Social Care should attend their mock CTEC and, where possible, attend lessons or workshops as agreed with their CTEC teachers.

Year 2 students on mixed programmes of Year 2 A level with Vocational Art or Year 1 subjects must attend their Vocational Art or Year 1 lessons as usual unless a clash with a Year 2 mock exam. In that case, students should attend the exam and return to the lesson when possible. Please get in touch with teachers regarding any missing work so that students catch up fully before the next lesson.

Year 2 Tutorial and EPQ lessons will not run during the study leave week.

Year 2 students will not be expected to attend GCSE or Functional Skills lessons that week but will continue for Year 1 and Vocational Art students.

CTEC students

Students studying CTEC subjects will have exams in January that are not mocks. These exams count towards their final grade and cannot be rearranged because they are nationally timetabled external assessments.

Teachers will ensure that they prioritise marking CTEC mocks so that feedback is given to students before the Christmas holiday. Students must attend those final lessons to help inform their revision over the break.

Summer Contingency Date

Exam boards have confirmed the final contingency date as Wednesday, 25 June 2025 – any exam board could choose to move a summer exam to this date at short notice in response to a national or regional incident.

Students must keep themselves free until this date, so please do NOT book summer holidays that start on or before 25 June. Being away would not be accepted by an exam board as a reasonable excuse, so it would impact their grade if they missed an exam.
