Shrewsbury Colleges Group is delighted to announce the tenth anniversary of the launch of offering the highly esteemed Foundation Degree in Education course. Over the past decade, this course has grown into one of the cornerstones of our academic offerings, producing skilled educators who are making a significant impact in schools, colleges, and educational institutions across the county and beyond.

Since its inception, the Foundation Degree in Education has provided our students with a robust, comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. This unique blend has enabled our graduates to thrive in various educational settings, fostering a new generation of passionate and dedicated teachers.

Our commitment to excellence is reflected in the achievements of our students and alumni. Many have gone on to secure influential roles in education, locally and across the region.

To celebrate this milestone, we held a reunion event on Wednesday 26 June with some of the past alumni of this course. Over the last ten years, we have seen:

  • Over 80 students successfully completed Foundation Degree in Education of which 3 completed with Early Childhood Studies specialism.
  • 70 have successfully completed the BA Education to date – this is the top-up qualification which is the progression route for FdA ED completers.
  • Over 40 went on to Teacher training courses.
  • Two excellent educational trips to Barcelona and Milan, including visiting a Catalonian Primary school for the day.

James Staniforth, Principal of the college said; ‘We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our students and the dedication of our higher education staff who have supported them every step of the way. This anniversary is not just a celebration of the past ten years but also a testament to our ongoing commitment to nurturing the educators of tomorrow.’

Michelle Dawes, Curriculum Director for Higher Education at the college, added: ‘As we look to the future, we remain focused on enhancing our curriculum, expanding our partnerships with schools and educational organisations, and continuing to provide a supportive and enriching environment for our students.’
