Shrewsbury Colleges Group has made the following further statement concerning the security threat incident on Thursday 5 May.
On Thursday 5 May, the college received an anonymous security threat via an electronic channel. After consulting with West Mercia Police, the college implemented its lockdown (invacuation) protocol in conjunction with the guidance of the local police service.
All staff and students were asked to stay on each of the three campuses and the lockdown protocol lasted approximately one hour. Staff and students responded in an exemplary manner.
The police confirmed that the security threat was a hoax, and a man was subsequently arrested.
Lessons and other activities returned to normal for the rest of the day after the lockdown protocol had been lifted.
The college would like to thank all staff and students for their cooperation and understanding. The college would also like to thank the West Mercia Police for their support during this time.
