Course Studied: Level 2 in Plumbing
Course: 853

Level 3 Plumbing Apprenticeship
Previous school: Bishop's Castle Community College

I chose this course as I want to follow in the family trade. I’ve had work experience with my father, so I knew that plumbing was an area I’d like to work in. This is a very enjoyable course, covering lots of skills, as well as giving you the opportunity to work with new materials. After this course I plan to go on to an Apprenticeship.

I wanted to do something hands-on when I was older and not to be stuck in an office – I didn’t enjoy A Levels. I have enjoyed learning more in-depth techniques on Plumbing Level 3 as it helps you understand the practical and put it all together. You also gain the confidence to complete more jobs. I am currently working with SG Roberts and will keep that going whilst I do my Level 3 Gas next year. Eventually I think I would like to go into teaching and do the same things that the staff at SCG have done for me.

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care
Previous school: The Priory School

I’m the regional district cadet of the year for St John Ambulance and what that means is that I have quite a lot of clinical experience, as well as a lot of skills that I’ve acquired through just talking to people. When my tutor found out about my volunteering, she encouraged me to enter the WorldSkills Show to show my transferrable skills and work on my personal development.

Course Studied: Level 3 in Creative Media Production
Course: 729

Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production
Previous school: Shrewsbury Academy

I have always enjoyed concept art and design, so this course was recommended to me. At the Open Evening everyone seemed knowledgeable and inviting. I will be progressing onto Level 3 next year and then I would like to explore concept art and drawing, possibly getting a tattoo Apprenticeship.

Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
Previous school: Church Stretton School

I’ve always had a keen interest in beauty therapy and skin care. I started the Level 2 Beauty Specialist Diploma and managed to achieve a part-time position at Riverside Beauty in Ludlow. I have developed throughout my course with the support of my tutors and peers. My next step is to progress onto the Level 3 Massage course and I can’t wait to start!

Level 3 in Beauty Make-up Techniques
Previous school: North Shropshire College

I joined Level 3 in Beauty Make-up Techniques as an external student previously studying health and social care, in the hopes that I would be able to go on to peruse a degree in makeup. Fast forward eight months and that’s exactly what I’m about to do! I have been offered a place at the University of Salford to carry on my education studying makeup for fashion, in my favourite city! None of this would have been possible without the help of Becky and the other wonderful tutors who have guided us all through the past year. I can genuinely say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of this course.

Course Studied: Level 1 Professional Chef Diploma
Course: 814

Level 2 Professional Chef
Previous school: Marches School

I came to SCG because the Catering facilities are the best in the area. Also, studying here has given me the opportunity to be on the Welsh Junior Culinary team. This achievement looks great on my CV, we train with some of the best and get good contacts from it. I currently work in Sebastians in Oswestry which has two AA Rosettes. I eventually want to work my way up and be a head chef.

Course Studied: Music
Course: 886

Level 3 Music Technology
Previous school: Caereinion High School

There has been some big investments in the Music Technology department at SCG recently – so there is great kit here, and the teachers have so much experience and knowledge of the subject. I grew up around music, as my Dad is a singer and always had an interest – especially in the tech side of it all. I have secured a great job with Energized Sound & Lighting through the course and will hopefully be going on to study Music Technology at university.

Level 3 Public Uniformed Services
Previous school: Belvidere School

I want to join a service and do a physical career, so this course suited me well. I like how hands-on it is and I really enjoyed the overnight expeditions with the Army. This course helps you decide if you are serious about a future in the Services – I will be joining the Marines next year.

Course Studied: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport
Course: 873

Level 3 Sports
Previous school: Overseas school

I wanted to do a sports focused course, but still look at a wide variety of sports – which is what you get at SCG, and I prefer continuous assessment rather than exams. The tutors are also really down to earth. I am part of the College Netball team and it is a great mix of students from all three campuses. I am going to Gloucester University to study Sports Therapy.
