- Course: 888
A Level Religious Studies (Biology, Psychology)
Previous school: Idsall School
Shrewsbury Colleges Group looked good and offered interesting subjects, like Religious Studies. I have really enjoyed learning about the old philosophers like Aristotle. I am considering studying theology at university after College and everything I’ve learnt this year in Religious Studies will help.
A Level History (Politics, English Literature)
Previous School: Newport Girls High School
I decided to study at SCG because I wanted a change of scenery and a bigger college, so it would be easier for transition to University. After attending an Open Evening I decided this was the best place to be. I have really enjoyed looking at American history in the 60s and 70s – the civil rights and women’s rights movements. The teaching is really good and we look at very interesting modern history. I will be going to the University of Manchester to study Law - History has given me great reading skills that I can take with me.
- Course Studied: Sociology A Level
- Course: 923
A Level Sociology (Applied Science BTEC, Health & Social Care BTEC)
Previous school: Church Stretton School
I thought Sociology A Level sounded really interesting. I want to go into Nursing after College and it will really help me achieve that. I enjoyed learning about sociological methods. Sociology helps you to have an open mind and see things from different perspectives.
- Course Studied: Law A Level
- Course: 887
A Level Law (Politics, Sociology)
Previous school: Shrewsbury Academy
Law can be a challenging A Level, but it is worth it and I thrive when being pushed. The resources are great here and the support is amazing - I picked SCG after coming to an Open Evening. The aspect I find
most interesting to study is manslaughter cases and I have especially enjoyed learning about battered woman syndrome. I would like to become a solicitor or barrister in family law so I will be going to study Law at Edge Hill University.
- Course Studied: Textiles A Level
- Course: 916
A Level Textiles (Music, Psychology)
Previous school: Charlton School
The College had all the subjects I wanted and I really enjoy textiles. Studying it at A Level teaches you so many new skills. The teacher creates an environment where you can truly explore textiles and you always get the support you need. My favourite skill to learn was free hand stitching on the machine - I could be so expressive and free with it.
- Course Studied: Mathematics
- Course: 931
A Level Mathematics (Chemistry, Biology)
Previous school: Belvidere School
I want to study medicine at university and Maths is a strong application subject for me. Maths has also helped a huge amount with my other subjects and enabled me to understand different elements. My favourite thing to study so far has been differentiation and stationary points. It is very satisfying when you find the solution.
- Course Studied: Mathematics
- Course: 931
A Level Mathematics (Chemistry, Maths, Spanish)
Previous school: Overseas School
I would love to study Maths with Philosophy at university, so Further Maths was an obvious A Level choice for me. All the topics that we cover are fun and interesting and both of my Maths A levels complement each other really well. Further Maths is great to take if you are passionate about the subject.
- Course Studied: Electronics A Level
- Course: 889
A Level Electronics (Physics, ICT BTEC)
Previous Institution: Shrewsbury Academy
I do Electronics and Physics because they tie in really nicely together and will help me with an Apprenticeship in the future. I especially enjoy the practicals and building circuits, but there is also a good balance with theory work.
- Course Studied: Music
- Course: 886
A Level Music (Business, Economics, Psychology)
Previous school: Church Stretton School
I will study Music at Durham University and then do a PGCE as I would like to become a college Music teacher. This has been inspired by the great teachers at SCG and all the hard work they have put in to help me. I learnt composition and theory and truly developed my skills as a Musician. I play classical guitar and never thought I’d be able to consider it as a future career. I also take part in the MaDA performances and am a member of the college choir - these are great confidence builders.
- Course Studied: Electronics A Level
- Course: 889
A Level Spanish (French, Maths and Further Maths)
Previous Institution: The Corbet School
I liked the size of College and found everybody really friendly. I enjoy learning about the culture of the countries as well as the language itself. I’m hoping to go to Spain and teach English after my A Levels.
