Course Studied: Business BTEC
Course: 901

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business
Previous School: Lakelands Academy

I like that the course is assignment based, which suits my skills a lot more than doing exams. There are also a lot of practical elements to the course which I really enjoyed, like doing presentations, creating displays and taking part in class debates. The course has given me a good understanding of how businesses work, and it’s been my steppingstone into employment. I’ve got an apprenticeship in a recruitment business in Shrewsbury set up for after I leave college.

My Mum is an Illustrator and my love of photography began when taking photos for her. This course is brilliant with amazing equipment and the freedom to be creative. The College is also in a great location– being so close to town is helpful for all our photo shoots. We get the opportunity to go on loads of gallery trips, which are so educational and inspirational. My work has actually been in Wolverhampton Gallery after a teacher put it forward. I will be going to UWE Bristol to study Photography in 2020, but next year I will be travelling around India with my camera. I would love to eventually work in documentary or fashion photography.

The Level 3 was an introduction to teaching and made me sure it was what I wanted to do. Level 4 took things a lot further and was the perfect spring-board to the PGCE. The courses provided me with good background knowledge which has served me well. I found the courses challenging and really enjoyed them.

If you haven’t studied academically for a while, the support is absolutely brilliant. The course tutor suggested this route to me, and I am so glad they did because I don’t think I would have got onto a PGCE without it and it would have been much harder to achieve without the knowledge I gained from the courses at SCG.

Before completing the Level 3, I was a self-employed beauty therapist, working around three young children. I chose the correct time to pursue this career and it fitted well into my family life.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher and the time was right for me and my family to pursue this goal. I then transitioned straight to the L5 course, which was a challenge, though the support I received from teachers provided the I tools needed to succeed."

Whilst completing the first year of Level 5 I had the opportunity to spend one day a week on placement, securing the position as beauty teacher at the end of my first year. I completed the second year of Level 5 in role, providing an excellent opportunity to use the knowledge gained from my course and leading learners in their chosen course.

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design
Previous school: Bishop's Castle Community College

I was originally applying for A Levels but thought it would be better to just do a solely Art focused course. I love the range of topics we cover in Level 3, we approach art in so many different ways – it broadens our knowledge. It is a friendly environment to work in and the teachers are open-minded and help with inspiration and developing your ideas. I am going to the University of Brighton to study 3D Design & Craft and would eventually like to work in 3D design and education.

I came here because I'm interested in Engineering. I really enjoyed doing my final project and having the creativity to come up with my own design and I have also enjoyed working with hydraulics. I achieved D*D*D* in my Diploma and am now going on to do an Apprenticeship. The teachers are helpful and the equipment at the College is state-of-the-art.

I really enjoy music and wanted to go to a college where I could focus solely on that. I have learnt a lot at the College, the teaching is great and lessons are informative. I enjoy the live performances we do and the studios we use are professional and realistic. After College I am going to study a HND Music Performance course.
