Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care

I chose to study a Foundation degree in Health at Shrewsbury Colleges Group as I could study alongside my job at the time (in social work). I found the course manageable and worked hard to fit the work around my job/life. My tutors were super supportive as I was an adult learner returning to studying for the first time since school and things have moved on a bit since that time! I used the FD as a stepping stone to progress into a full degree in Health Studies at university and the skills learned enabled me to attain a first in my degree. I am now the co-owner of a business related to the health sector and have a great work/ life balance. I would recommend the course to potential students, young and old as I am not an academic person but was prepared to put the work in and it paid off for me.

Level 2 ACTIVE IQ Certificate in Personal Training

The part-time courses at Shrewsbury Colleges Group were perfect for me as they fit in around my career and social life. It was a very different experience coming back into education as an older learner, but the staff and fellow students made me feel welcome. The classes taught me exactly what I needed and I felt encouraged to take on the other fitness courses.

Level 2 Plumbing
Previous school: home schooled

I chose this course as I want to follow in the family trade. I’ve had work experience with my father, so I knew that plumbing was an area I’d like to work in. This is a very enjoyable course, covering lots of skills, as well as giving you the opportunity to work with new materials. After this course I plan to go on to an Apprenticeship.

HNC Sport

I like my course because it covers a wide range of areas in sport so we can have many choices of career pathways. The teachers have a lot of connections which can also help us get into whatever area of sport we want to do in the future.

I am really into football and want to go into coaching as a career and the teachers are helping me get the qualifications I need for this.

There course has a good mix of practical elements that go alongside the theory and assignment work.

Course Studied: PGCE

PGCE

I decided to do the PGCE, partly because my employer wanted me to and partly to increase my skills and qualifications. Teaching is a way of giving something back and sharing my knowledge with the next generation.

HNC in Engineering (Electrical & Electronic Engineering)

I chose SCG because the course is well equipped, with really great facilities such as the LRC. I can get any books I need and the library will even get academic material in for us if it is not already there.

The tutors have been really supportive, especially when I had a child, making sure that I wasn’t overloaded with work.

Level 4 Pearson BTEC Certificate in Education and Training

I like the course because it helps me enhance the skills that I already have to help me in my profession. I enjoy the practicals and being observed by our tutor because he being the subject expert, gives me advice on how I can improve my teaching techniques and skills in general.

AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting

I chose to study at SCG because it is close to where I live and the course is offered at times convient to people looking to change careers. The course is thoroughly prepared and taught, so I have achieved really good grades and as a result, been able to get a job. My new employer has a good relationship with the college and has paid for the final part of my training which I am now doing on day release.

I got really good tailored support from the tutors who go above and beyond to give you feedback. They know their teaching material well and have a depth of experience that allows them to apply the classroom lessons to real-life scenarios.
