College Ready
Previous school: The Priory School

College Ready helps you decide what you want out of your future – it is a very useful course and you learn loads of vital skills to make sure you can succeed. You learn how to conduct yourself at interviews and how to manage your time and coursework. I really enjoyed the course and became more confident which helped me get onto the Level 2 Performing Arts course and I can’t wait to now progress to the Level 3 as I have always loved acting and singing.

Level 2 Award in Cutting Men’s Hair

I was a plumber and wanted a career change. My friend who runs a barber’s inspired me to join the part-time Cutting Men’s Hair course at Shrewsbury Colleges Group. The teachers and facilities were great and learning in the evening meant I could carry on with my day job. Four months after completing the course I had opened The Fade Inn, my own Barber’s in Shrewsbury.

HND in Computing Science

I wanted to improve my career prospects and chose this course as it covered the areas that I was interested in. The learning is hands-on at Shrewsbury Colleges Group and the smaller classes mean more interaction with tutors. I wanted to learn design and how to build databases, and I am getting all of that here. The information on web design is first class and you are taught by experts. You are educated in every aspect of system development – hardware and software.

Level 3 VTCT Diploma in Massage Therapies

I decided to do this course to try something new, as well as to learn some relaxation treatments for my work colleagues because it’s a really stressful time in the NHS at the moment. It’s been something that I’ve enjoyed and I found all the types of massage really interesting to learn. I studied sport at university back in Romania, so now I can use both sports massage and relaxing massage techniques.

HNC in Construction & the Built Environment
Previous Institution: Shrewsbury Academy

I wanted a complete change in career and had always considered becoming an architect. When I came to an SCG Open Evening, tutors suggested the route of Higher Education in Construction. It is a great hands-on course and I especially enjoyed learning about CAD, as this is a skill I need to become an architect.

Level 1 Hairdressing
Previous school: Grove School

I chose to study hairdressing because I like to meet new people. When I had my first client I was nervous, but after the experience it was good and it feels normal now. I want to apply for Level 2, then Level 3 and after I want to open my own salon.

HND in Computing Science
Previous Institution: Ercall Wood School

I completed a Level 3 in Computing & IT at SCG and enjoyed my time so much on the course that I knew I had to apply for the HND. I wanted to improve my networking knowledge so that I could pursue it as a career. Studying a HE course in Shrewsbury was so appealing to me – a local institution with friendly teachers and more one on one interaction. After this year I will top up my degree at Staffordshire University.

HNC in Business

The HNC has provided me with a thorough understanding of business fundamentals, which I have been able to translate into my working life as a Marketing Executive. Having started in this career less than two years ago as an entry level Communications Coordinator, I have already received a promotion and have undertaken increased levels of responsibility.

Access to Health

I would highly recommend this course to individuals hoping to go into nursing/midwifery in the future. It is by no means easy, but it is a fantastic course which is a great foundation for university.
