I am thankful for the excellent music teaching I have received, both at the College and from my instrumental teachers. I am going to study Music at Cambridge University and am excited to continue expanding my musical knowledge. I feel very privileged to be going to such a prestigious university!

Course Studied: Level 3 in Performing Arts
Course: 839

Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts
Previous school: The Telford Priory School

The end-of-year performance made me decide to come to Shrewsbury Colleges Group. I saw A Night at the Musicals two years ago and loved it. So it is amazing to now be in the performance. The tutor support is amazing and I’m hoping to take a gap year after college, before applying for drama school in London.

Course Studied: Level 2 in Plumbing
Course: 853

Level 2 Plumbing
Previous Institution: Church Stretton School

It’s great seeing the improvements I’ve made on the course and I’m looking forward to moving on to an Apprenticeship. This is a great trade to work in as there are lots of opportunities to specialise in different areas of plumbing.

Level 2 VTCT Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques

I joined the course to build upon my qualification as a salon manager. As a qualified hairdresser, I found it easy dealing with issues regarding hair services but struggled due to my limited knowledge of beauty to effectively manage the beauty team.

On the course, my confidence grew with each passing week and all the areas we covered were relevant to our industry services. The college has also offered extra courses to top up my skills and knowledge further. The one day a week schedule fitted in easily with my work schedule and childcare.

Course Studied: Level 3 Public Uniformed Services
Course: 860

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services
Previous school: Bryn Alyn School

I knew I wanted to be in the Public Uniformed Services, and after workshops by the police on the course, I was inspired. I am going to Cardiff Metropolitan University to study for a Professional Policing Degree after college. You need to be motivated on this course and try your best – but there is lots of support from teachers and progression specialists. The College is great because there are so many opportunities for you here, like enrichment activities.

Course Studied: BTEC Level 3 Applied Science
Course: 900

Applied Science BTEC, Business BTEC
Previous school: Church Stretton School

I had heard great reviews for the College from past and present students. Coming here meant I could be on the Two Plus programme and get my English GCSE so I can complete my A Levels. After college I would like to do a higher Apprenticeship in Engineering. Applied Science gives you a good understanding of the work environment in the science industry and I’ve really enjoyed learning about protein biosynthesis.

Level 3 Travel & Tourism
Previous school: Meole Brace School, Shrewsbury

I have gained many skills which will be valuable to me in the future. I have also gained a lot of confidence through opportunities I have been offered on the course, such as work experience. The course has taught me a lot about the tourism industry and possible areas for development on completion of my course.

Course: 780

Diploma in Women's Hairdressing

Studying part-time has allowed me to train towards my career goal, as the course works well around my childcare support. Also, having the chance to work in the College’s commercial salon, gives you the opportunity to learn the business side of salons. After completing the Level 2 I want to continue with Level 3 and then become a mobile hairdresser.

Course Studied: A Level Classical Civilisation
Course: 885

A Level Classical Civilisation (Music, Drama & Theatre and English Literature)
Previous Institution: Newtown High School

I didn’t do Classical Civilisation at GCSE, but it looked really interesting at the College open day. It is a great mix of English, Drama and History. I want to do Classics at Durham University. I came here because there were better subject choices, which were flexible. I feel more independent here and it is a nice step between school and university. I really enjoy looking at Greek comedy.
